    AVID Laptop - $1500 Budget

Any laptop recommendations for $1500 budget?

    Thanks,

I hear Avid Xpress Pro 5.5.1 works on the Macbook with Bootcamp. Refurbished Powerbooks on the Apple Webstore also run in that range. I am not a PC user, so I don't want to recomend somthing that won't work.

I think Avid Express Pro works native on older Macs

Used PB ($1200?) and Avid ($2194)

The HP nx9600 is a great choice too.

I picked up a Gateway 7330 recently for under $600 and I am cutting my latest HD project on Avid. I've had zero problems. I used it on-set to dump P2 cards and am now using it to cut the movie and create the final DVD master. This is a P4 3.06Ghz. I previously had a P4 2.0 Ghz HP notebook and cutting HD was very choppy. This is much improved. I use external 300gb Seagate USB 2.0 Hard Drives to store footage and I cut with them connected to the laptop.

The rebate I got on mine is no longer offered, but the price is still considerably less than the $1500 you have available:

Note that a lot of these options are not supported - I wish that avid would put a couple lower end machines on their supported list to make the platform more affordable.

I have it running on a dell inspiron e1705. I got a great deal on it too! only $800 brand new from a college student. I think it is around $1000 from dell. You don't always have to have a really expensive computer to run it. I know people who run it on pretty basic computers. Of course you might have some problems but you will never know unless you test it.

I have an HP Pavilion ZD8000. Might be a little more than 1500 though.
