    Avid and Mac Pro

We do broadcast work. Clients are starting to bring in 4k red footage. My current pc avid system crashes a lot and is sluggish especially when using 4k and frameflex. I am ready to buy a new system. Is anyone running media composer on a new mac pro (which one)? Are you using thunderbolt 2 hardware (capture and playback card) and thunderbolt 2 drives? Just trying to figure out what hardware to buy that will create a stable system that can handle red 4k in avid. Most finished projects have to be delivered on dvcpro HD tape, so I would need a card that can control a deck and deliver HD SDI video.

    Thanks!
What do you mean funny? Like a clown? Do I amuse you?! Huh??!!

I could also go the PC route if you have some PC, io and raid advice. Thanks!

          thefilmaddict,

I've started using MC lately and I'm running it on a PC (custom built).
I haven't tried any 4k project yet, but other than that Avid is running smoothly and I'm not experiencing particular issues.
I can set up a 4k project to make a test if you want.
Only glitch I've got was about the video card, as I'm using drivers not officially supported by Avid, but it's also been very easy to fix it (by just adding my drivers to QualifiedGpuBoards.txt).
My box doesn't have any Raid configuration whatsoever, just a SSD where I run all the applications and a secondary 3TB Seagate Barracuda where I store projects, proxies, cache files and so forth.
Let me know if you have specific questions, I'm quite new to Avid but I'll try to help if I can.

I'd not go the pc route. your mac list will work fine. You can always email avid and they will lead you down the right path.
