I may still have one of my DV Firewire recorders lying around--will take a look.

Back in 2012, the company I worked at had a Firewire to CF recorder that they used with a Canon XL2. A CF recorder is probably the best option, if you can find a good deal on a used one.

You could record out of the RCA outputs or whatever it has by using adapters and an external recorder. I do this with cameras from the 90s (for fun), so you could definitely do it with the DVX100A. (If you would like just a hard drive, maybe an old Ninja Star?)

Keep in mind it will likely be a messy setup and you might have to power the adapter(s) depending on the model (a USB bank is common).

With all that said, might just be easier to find a DVX100/A/B for 200 bucks on eBay.

    DVX100A bypass mini dv tape?

My DVX100A seems to have a problem with the recording mechanism to minidv tape. I have cleaned the heads, but it still swallows the tape. It looks like the heads are going to have to be replaced and that could be very costly. Is there an alternative to get the footage onto a SD card or a portable hard drive?
    Thanx
