MOIRE ratings...

How are all the new cameras doing with MOIRE? Can't seem to find much ratings on moire, but I can not stand it, and don't want to buy a new camera that has a lot of it.

I'm aware of normal digital moire of a pixel aligned sensor trying to capture a window screen, or close up on weaved shirt - that is unavoidable, I know. But I am talking about that crappy green/orange bayer sensor issue that shows up across many camera lines.

My example is going from a Canon T3i with unacceptable moire, to GH4 4K with no moire that I can produce, excepting that normal digital kind.

Looking at cameras from $2000 to 10,000, but seems hard to find moire info. Do ALL Blackmagic suffer bad moire without that OLPF filter? Has panasonic negated it in the GH6?

In my experience everything is pretty good and nothing is perfect. Alexa has a tiny bit of moire with the wrong cloth pattern, Black Magic is worst because there's no OLPF but it's not a moire pattern usually so much as color fringing at high-contrast edges that is relatively subtle.

IMO everything is really pretty good these days at least among video-oriented and hybrid cameras.

i do thinkk everything is good.. but if you do something special like work for a fine weave coat company you should do your own tests as the blogeratti dont test any more.

ive had some bad bm experiences in the past and mainly good apart from line skipping dslrs

Moire comes often from line skipping, as was the case with 1080p on a 10-16 MPX sensor. These days. most mid-price camera at and around $2,000 have a 4K full sensor read out. Higher end cameras have 8K and can be had for under $4,000.

Watched a 4K footage of the neighborhood skyline a few hours ago ... as the drone climbs up onto a 50-story building, the side cladding locks up badly ... it's probably just the YouTube compression but it looks like some sort of a psychedelic video from the late 60's.

thanks for posting, yes, I immediately noticed those lil colors at 3:10. exactly what I want to avoid. im okay when the weave causes some normal digital moire with weaves or screens etc, but not that colored crap.

I have a Blackmagic URSA Mini 4K and it has no moire to speak off without any filters. My previous camera was the T2i which suffered horribly from it.
