UBC MFA Film Production/Creative Writing - info anyone?

It's highly selective - they say they only take 2-3 students a year out of a ~40 person applicant pool but I've been considering applying to this program for about a year now.
From what I've read, it seems like they changed up the department and curriculum quite a bit six or so years ago, so it might be wet behind the ears. But I really like the program description:

Can't find any legit info online about the program's alumni, though. Only one unreliable review by a proclaimed undergraduate.

I'm interested because I write/direct. I could also teach (more) and just get better salaries/opportunities with an MFA in the bag. And yes, Vancouver was good to me when I visited a few years ago.

It's relatively affordable. Tuition is ~$8,000 per year, (which is less than I paid as an in-state for my BA) and you are automatically eligible for funding opportunities, GA work, etc. (Check out their FAQ)

A 2 (or +) year program where you basically workshop your thesis and take screenwriting and directing classes. You have to self-fund your thesis, which is usually a short form. Basically, I'd propose to shoot excerpts from my feature-length script and shop that short around for financing after graduating. Which is a whole other question: would graduating from a program like this better one's chances at securing funds for a feature?

Tops schools like NYU and USC and AFI are just too expensive. Same for the good programs in London. Plus the cost of living in those cities...

What's the deal with UBC? Anyone?
