NEW Instructional: 24p & Frame Rates HD Tutorial

From the company which brought you Lighting for Film and Television, Sound for Film and Television, and the HVX BootCamp DVDs . . .

Over an hour of content demystifying 24p -- what it is, how to shoot it, the infamous "pulldown," edit and export . . . and also about frame rates in general -- how they work, why they look the way they do, what they do for you, and how to choose between them.

This is an HD download, not a DVD -- more information by clicking on the banner above.

Now for the pre-sale price of $10.99 -- will be $14.99 after release on February 19th!

This is a pretty comprehensive work, easily the definitive instructional on 24p -- if you're wondering if it covers something specific, it probably does, but ask away! (And if it doesn't, maybe we can still squeeze it in. )

        Hey David,

Most of people's have negative reactions to previews of HFR footage. It just because DPs/shooter/production don't have enough info "How to get best result shooting HFR".

        For example;
What fps is the sweet spot for HFR (including shutter speed).

Benefit over 48 fps versus 60 fps, 60 fps versus 120 fps,
as well as the issues of converting HFR productions for exhibition at lower frame rates

Sync sound at 48 or 60fps or 120fps…

Best plan for anyone looking to maximize flexibility for HFR post-production and delivery.

Basically I am asking a HFR tutorial for dummies. In bonus, HFR discussion on 3D stereo perspective will be great.

Well, then, no not really. We discuss the different frame rates what qualities faster and slower frame rates bring to the table, but what's "better" is ultimately up to you. The primary focus is 24p, but we discuss others, as well things like overcranking or mixing frame rates. There won't be anything about 3D.

Seems pointless because there's nothing that supports HFR outside of theater projectors and downloaded files. You can't stream HFR on anything that I've found, and the closest you can get on disc is 720p60 only.

This clears up a lot of the questions people have had over the years about pulldown, 24p vs. 24pA, etc. It's not a boring, nuts and bolts seminar. It's fun and informative. If you know me, you know that I'm not a shill. I'd recommend it, my friends.

I just bought this video on Friday morning and it is great. The thought and care that went into this project was clear from the start. The video uses some film noir type clips in various formats and is edited together so that you get a true idea of how your footage will stack up at various frame rates. This is the best demonstration I have seen to date that illustrates the advantage of 24P in story telling vs. the 30P, 29.97i/59.97i/60P thing. The use of black and white really made it pop because you can truly see the differences in frame rate without color distraction. The scripting of the demonstration scenes was pretty snappy too.

The focus was on the use of 24P and not a gizmo, gadget, or hyped up program. This video should allay any fears about using various formats and how to get a compelling story filmed and then to the right format for viewing. Too many times we get caught up in software and hardware that we miss the important things. This video should help you deliver sharp looking material without getting preachy about what format that you should use. That is actually emphasized by David.

                              Sincerely,
                              Bill
