I'm curious-- you don't use the GH2 for the actual show production any, do you? I figured that was mostly ENG cams plus the lady that goes in the heli, who it looks like has a Canon DSLR, right?

Btw, is that audio technica wireless pretty good if I just don't want to spend $500 on a nicer one?

Keep up the great work. Are you going on the next campaign?
Thanks, Brandon! Glad to hear you've been watching the show.

I am a Sea Shepherd crew member who volunteers as a photographer, videographer, and deckhand (do some plumbing too). The show is produced by Animal Planet who hire camera operators that are paid by them and are not directly connected to SS. I did provide them with a bunch of footage from my GH13 and GoPro. I have seen a lot of my footage already used in the first couple of episodes. They use Sony 1/3" HDV camcorders, several of which broke less than halfway through our campaign. By the third small boat mission, they ditched the Sony's and brought their GoPro's mounted on wooden handles after they saw how good my footage was. With four AP camera operators on our ship, they still managed to miss many shots that I was able to get with both my GoPro and my GH1. Don't get me wrong, they did their best and managed to get a lot of good moments. Their audio guy was great, too! Talking with one of the camera guys on one of the other ships, he had tried really hard to push for shooting with DSLRs, primarily the GH1, though didnt have any luck as they wanted the footage to match what they had used in the past and to be of 60i origin. Funny thing is, I had native 24p checked on mine, and they used plenty of that footage already with no issues.

The lady in the heli is shooting only stills and there is a 3rd person in there who you dont see that is using a Sony hdv cam.

If you have the money for it, I suggest a True Diversity UHF wireless like the Sennheiser G3 or something similar. Though been pretty happy with my AT. I used to get lots of interference when I used it, though lately it has not been an issue. Though it has been years since I used it in the US.

Do hope to go on the next campaign. Could be soon, too - to defend sharks against shark finning.

Also thanks, Ed, for the feedback.

Some sick things we as humans do.. though with more awareness and education, hopefully less of this will occur.

thank for the feedback. if you want to download it, install 'download helper' for firefox. allows you to save the original mp4 1080 file.

yes, it is a lot of work here on the Bob and thats what I was trying to convey, so i am glad that it was you got out of it, stoneinapond.

boo.. audio for interviews was recorded with an audio technica wireless vhf:
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...8W_Camera.html

and b-roll audio was shot with the lumix stereo shoe mount mic or built in mic

timelapse at end was stills with go pro imported into premiere. create a sequence that is same res as stills (like 2592x2000 or something like that) and then that sequence is nested into a 1920x1080 sequence. the nested sequence is then keyframes to pan form one side to another still yielding full 1080 res. about to release a full video of timelapses created this way from goPro HD, GH1 and GH2

Every time I look at your footage I realize you guys are f*****g amazing. I didn't realize how much effort goes into keeping up the good work you all do. My only criticism is that there isn't a download available so that I can watch this over and over in full screen.

started a topic Mostly GH2, some GH1, some 7D and some GoPro

Mostly GH2, some GH1, some 7D and some GoPro

Most of this was shot with the GH2, then some with the 7D by my crewmate, then the rest with a GH1 or GoPro HD. Settings for GH2 is -2,0,+2,-1, iRes off, iDR all the way up

Highlight exposure warning on for most shots and kept overexposed areas to a bare minimum despite shadow areas looking dark on lcd or vf. on computer, shadow areas are fine.

interviews are with GH2 + 20mm pancake and nd+2 filter.

very little grading was necessary with GH2 footage - RGB parade in Premiere almost always was evenly full. for GH1, little adjustments needed, and for 7D, everything always seemed squashed, the parade was always only filled 80-90% for all R,G, and B. will have to take a look at his settings.

    hope you enjoy!

    any criticism is welcome
