GH1 as travel cam - Highlights of Italy

For those of you interested in the run'n gun stuff during travels, find my recent video of Italy here:

    http://vimeo.com/6563359

All shot with the kit lens, 1080p24, in smooth film mode (all settings -2), manual movie mode (by the way not a single scene out of the ~450 contained mud - so much to the mud issue).

    Have fun, Gunther

I like it. The GH1 is a great camera and the kit lens is very versatile. It seams to be a very good travel companion.

1080p is so sharp. Really nice colors

You only get mud when you move the camera, I dont see alot of panning in your footage, therefore you dont get alot, none, mud. What does vimeo use as a frame rate, if we upload euro footage ie 25fps it always seems to stutter. On the few pans yu did you get some stutter too and its 24fps?

Yeah, in the vimeo footage there is not a lot of panning - I captured a lot more than shown, mostly my kids at the beach. Kids at the beach means running behind them trying to catch a shot. Also there I don't see any mud.

I don't understand that vimeo stutter either - the original file I have uploaded plays nice and smooth, but via Vimeo it stutters like hell. It may partly have to do with the fact that the 24p are viewed on a computer screen (default at 60Hz), but the original file does'nt stutter like that when played back on my local computer at 60Hz.

If somebody could provide me with a good tip for proper vimeo settings I would be more than happy to follow.

This video just about sold me on this camera by itself. Gorgeous even with the kit lens. Great work!

This is some very nice travel footage. It's fired me up to drive down this coast next summer.

I really liked the silhouette of the people playing in the surf, there was a little mud on some of the frames which I'm sure pixel peepers would pull out, but the lighting and framing in the shot were so good I could have been there laying on the sand. Nice work

Thanks for your kind remarks! Maybe "mud" is sometimes confused with loss of resolution. In low contrast situations it can happen that you get a loss in detail (which doesn't bother me).

BTW, I've just posted something different on vimeo, in case you're interested. Tried my first "widescreen", capturing the beauty of the surroundings of Vienna.

I think the GH1 is a very good travel cam.

                  1. For Video top
                  2. For Stills good (not quite at the level of Canon and Nikon)
                  3. Weight/Size/Price top
