haha, I see you...I know you cover everything.

This one has been a work in progress for months when CR first posted about it last year.

I would believe a word of it, but Canon Rumors is rarely wrong about stuff such as this. If they are, they update it quite quickly.

I feel this would single handedly put Canon back into the market of DSLR for video. The update would address pretty much every problem I have with using the 5D for video. These changes would lead me to buy one or two 5D's.
They are never wrong about anything when it's stated as a "confirmation".

This one is from a "new source"...so definitely could be wrong.

I already have one 5D Mark IV and would buy a second updated body ASAP.

The mention of the XF-AFC (as currently listed) made me jolt in my seat, for reasons I've previously mentioned where encoding normally is tied to the Digic chip.

Now, it can be a spelling error (both from Keith and the source), as one would expect it to say XF-AVC if anything. It would surprise me a lot if we get a new TYPE of codec. It would raise many questions indeed...

        Let's see how it develops.

This all sounds great, but I'd still be seriously upset if they didn't also add Canon Log to the 1DX II.

That would be crazy for sure...I feel like it would almost make the 1DX Mark II with 4K/60p and C-Log (1/2/or 3) too good.

The whole thing reads more like a wish list than something that is actually possible based on Canon's designs or track record.

I'm sure you saw what the CR guy posted on CR near your post...(he wasn't replying to you though):

"For the record, there is some precedents to big feature firmware updates from Canon. The EOS 5D Mark II v1.1 and onward as well as the EOS 7D v2.0 come to mind.

In the end, it's just software."

The Canon Rumors blogger changed the codec from "XF-AFC" to "XF-AVC" in the blog post, so perhaps it was just a blog typo rather than an intended part of the rumor.

Keith told me on Twitter that the original post had copied the text from the "rumor", so the misspelling was in the rumor itself. Could have been just a misspelling, though.

Oups, sorry... you're right.. I'm mixing the name up with Keith from Northlight Images. I don't know them personally and almost never refer to them by name... got the names crossed!

Craig is the one writing for Canonrumors! *Make mental note: C for CR*

Just a thought - this may have something to do with the (alleged) new A7SIII too.

The rumour is growing and gaining more features:

                            from: http://www.canonrumors.com/crop-fact...g-update-more/

                            Firmware update will bring C-Log
We have told your earlier that Canon will bring c-log support to Canon5D Mark IV camera via firmware update that is expected to be announced next month during NAB event. A bunch of new features also coming just take a look below.

Firmware update and list of improvements coming
Now just prior to the announcement of Canon 5D Mark IV firmware update we now have all the details improvement that is expected to arrive with the Canon 5D Mark IV camera.

All video output will still be 8-bit.
Sampling for DCI 4K will be increased to a 5632 x 2970 pixel sensor area resulting in a 1.27x Crop factor.
Sampling for UHD will be from a 5472 x 3078 pixel sensor area resulting in a 1.29x Crop factor.
Both modes are accurately down-sampled to their final resolutions.
Existing frame rates will remain the same.
The current 1:1 4K sampling mode will remain an option for situations benefiting from the 1.78x Crop factor.
There will also be new full-sensor 3K modes added including 60fps and HDR 24fps.Both will use a line-alternating sampling method, so quality will be inferior to the improved 4K format (but better than the existing FullHD 1080p format.) It is unclear whether the file resolution in the final firmware will be the full 3360 x 1890 format or down-sampled to 3072 x 1728.
FullHD 1080p will also use this 3K full-sensor mode with down-sampling for a noticeable improvement in perceived resolution.
FullHD 1080p will also receive a modest frame rate boost to 72/75fps.
The EOS 5D Mark IV will gain the XF-AVC file format at 120Mbps (4:2:0) and 200Mbps (4:2:2). Both formats should require low enough data rates to accommodate UHS-I U3 type SD Cards.
Reports relating to a possible service job for the 5D Mark IV are the result of the heat sinks on current units not performing well in some environments when used with the newer firmware. This is because of the increased processing load from the enlarged video sampling area. Newer units will ship with an improved heat sink while existing 5D Mark IV units can be retrofitted. Pricing is unconfirmed for that servicing.
The newer firmware will still work in non-serviced cameras, but this may result in premature temperature warnings.
