    camera?

My son wants to get his wife a camera for her birthday that can shoot stills and video and use exchangeable lens. He wants something around $500 or LESS. The only camera that came to mind was the t3i. Any ideas from you guys?

Take a look at Sony alpha 6000
This was shot with the kit lens 16-50 power zoom.

Extremely compact, lightning fast accurate auto focus, nice colors out of the box.
My wife got tired of carrying the t5i around- she was looking for something smaller. It looks like the Sony is it.
The only issue is the EVF- not the same as optical.... on the flip side it is brighter however so it works great in low light..

The t3i has my vote! Perfect beginner's camera for photos and video. If you get it off eBay, you'll save money as well, maybe enough to get a Canon 50mm 1.8, the perfect complementary lens. Here are some links for a new camera around $400 for the t3i body (kit lens not included).

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Canon-EO...item43c9adf3f2 (costs a bit more, but it is labeled as Rebel t3i rather than 600D on the body if you care)
Check out 2 of my short films!

i actually sold my 7D for a SONY a6000. The video and stills quality blow the 7D out of the water. If she doesn't need the EVF, he could get her a a5100, which is essentially the same sensor.

Nikon has been doing very well lately in the photo & video department. Maybe a D5300 or the new D5500.

I prefer the Sonys because you can use almost any vintage lens on them and because they are smaller, but yes, the current Nikons are also very good. And panasonic has a lot of fans too (though I'm not one of them). Basically: almost anything except Canon :p
