SmallHD DP6, DP4 or just ML for run and gun documentary work with 2 x 5Dmk3

    Hi guys,

We have two 5Dmk3's that we are using for documentary work (a lot of it run'n'gun) and promotional stuff. We are trying to improve the focussing success and was wondering if those experienced with monitors (DP6 preferably) and magic lantern think it is worth getting the DP6 or not? And whether we should use ML on the DP6 or just use the focus assist etc features on the DP6.

Also would like to know if the weight of the DP6 is a hindrance when shooting for 3-4hrs at a time.

The DP6 is about the best your going to get in that size. Weight is not bad at all.(depends on batt and what kind of set up you have) If your only camera and monitor and not on the shoulder then yes, it might get hard on your wrists after a while. (But sometimes heavier is smoother and the 5D will never be a balenced camera to handhold without a bunch of add ons...) The focus assist is all you need, works great and easy to nail focus. (5D will always be a chore in the focusing...) TV Logic is basicly the same monitor but has a waveform. Which bugs the hell out of me that SmallHD did'nt add one.

Thanks for the info. So the focus assist on DP6 while recording works well too?
