Canon 5d mkII vs Canon 6d

I am looking to invest in a DSLR camera for heavy video use, and I have narrowed it down to the 5d mkii or the Canon 6D (Canon 5d Mk iii is out of my price range). From what I have read it seems there are a lot of new goodies that are packed into the 6d that make it very appealing. Better autofocusing, updated sensor, better recording codec for video, build in HDR, etc.


Although I have read that this camera has bad problems with Moire pattern and alaising. Although the articles I have read all lead back to the same video test.

has anyone out there used the 6d and the Canon 5d mkii? If so, are they similar with these type of issues (moire pattern and alaising), or is the 6D far worse. Also, if anyone has used the Canon 6D please share your experience with the overall quality of the footage.

Moire is far, far worse on the 6D than on the 5DII. I can tell you from first-hand experience. Stick with the 5DII (or III) for video.

I just bought a 6d sadly... Is there anything that the 6d is better at than the 5d mark 2?

Mosaic engineering now has an anti aliasing filter out for the 6D, you could look into that. I personally own one and haven't encountered too many issues with it, even at weddings, and the low light performance is remarkable.

Just be mindful of what you're shooting and remember that unless it is extremely prominent most people will never even notice it.

I already saw that video. This video was the main reason why I chose the 6d over 5d mark 3. I thought 5d mark 3 is even better than 5d mark 2 in low light?

It has the built in WiFi thing that allows remote operation. To do the same on the 5d2 you need the mega-expensive WFT dongle. Low light performance of the 6D is a stop or 2 better. Moire & aliasing is over rated as a problem most of the time. If you are doing a TV show or feature film it would be embarrassing but if it's a web advert or wedding video then nobody will care (except you).
