Canon 7D mk II rumored to be entry-level FF

After many underwhelming announcements recently, this could shake things up!

Maybe. Canon Rumors is skeptical (CR1):

But they also said recently that they are hearing 4 new Canon cameras this year (CR2). This is their prediction, which is similar at the base, not on specific models:

    More to come
Received some information that Canon is far from done as far as camera launches go for 2012. I am being told that 4 more DSLRs are coming in 2012.

    Which cameras?

It’s unknown if the expected mirrorless entry counts against the mentioned 4 camera bodies.

Speculation about what the 4 cameras could possibly be are below.

    1) “Entry Level” full frame camera. Think of it as a direct replacement for the 5D Mark II.
    2) Prosumer APS-C, possibly the 70D and not a direct replacement of the 7D.
    3) The big megapixel entry, mentioned to be an EOS-1D style body.
    4) A mirrorless entry.

So definitely good news overall! It will be interesting to see which cameras share the video focus (no pun) of the T4i.

Mirrorless Entry is what I'm looking out for. A mirrorless FULL FRAME entry would be incrediwhale.

Still waiting for the company that has the guts to drop Full Frame with indisputable video IQ.

They already have an entry level full frame camera. It is the 5D Mark II which they continue to sell at a lower price.

The might get a 6D to rest between 7D and 5D and that could be FF.

Canon may offer both FF and aps-c in the same camera.

This would make sense to compete with the (edit: rumored) spec for the upcoming $1500 Nikon d600

interesting... if its true. But strange this is coming out just on the heels of a Nikon Rumor of the D600 full frame.

There's far too many rumors being tossed around right now to be able to trust this one.

It doesn't make sense to me at all that they would do this... The 7D is popular with sports and wildlife shooters because it is not full frame. They could not allow a decrease in frame rate either or people would cry bloody murder. And I doubt Canon would release an 8fps full frame camera for $2000.

I don't deny that Canon might release a budget full frame camera, but it doens't make sense to me that the 7DmkII is it.

If it's going to be an entry level full-frame, it's likely going to lack some serious specs, as they wouldn't want it competing with the 5D Mark III. Perhaps less megapixels, less fps. Dare I say, no video?

This is not possible as Canon EF-S lenses have a rubber flange at the rear protruding into the body, preventing them form being used on full frame cameras.
