5DmkII dynamic car shots from miniature UAV helicopter

    Hi.

I thought You might be interested.

Few moths back in we did some shots of dynamic SUV car driving on a beach here in Poland using 5Dmk2 from our remote helicopter equipped with 3 axis camera mount.

I love shooting cars and all kind of motorized moving objects, especially in some interesting spots like this one.

Its been also very enjoyable and fun to edit.

We used 24mm f/1.4L II EF lens(which seems to be sharper than 24-70).

There were few shots that i decided to stabilize but i mostly looks very smooth(no rolling shutter or jelly stuff) right out of 5D.

That is a fun kit right there. Love the shot where you can see the helicopter in the windows reflection.

Is that a Trex 700E with the PhotoShipOne mount?

            Thanks!

Both heli and 3 axis camera head are custom designed/built. It is 800size electric machine.

I did put that reflection shot for a reason, now You know that close shots were also done from heli

Reaaaaally interesting stuff. And amazing footages by the way.
I'm just curious about how this works. Forgive my question, but how do you monitor your 5d while the helicopter is flying? Is it just a matter of practicing or you have a remote monitor?

                Thanks Diego.

The camera mount is controlled independently from helicopter. We use wireless video transmitter connected to 5D. Our camera operator has a live view monitor and controls the camera mount in all 3 axis. Sounds simple but requires lots of training and good cooperation between heli pilot and camera operator.

Looks really good. I'm currently working for a company that has a similar heli. However, the one they use has 6 propellers I believe.

Do you have any behind the scenes pictures of the shoot?

The one you are referring to is called hexacopter - it is electronicly stabilized - you can get good looking footage out of it after a lot of tweaking but it will never be smooth(especially in windy conditions). Also lifting capacity is not enought for anything more than dslr.

Yes, please give us some more info on all this stuff. I think it would be an amazing tool for my job as well and I would appreciate if you could suggest me which brands and tools to look at.
