best settings for 5dmk2 and HVX202

    Hio.
    I recently became an owner of a 5dmk2 and a HVX202EN.
My question is this. What are the best compatability settings to use when using these cameras together on a shoot. As the frame sizes are different 1920 x 1080 on the 5d compared to the 1440 x 1080 on the HVX202. I am concerned about the aspect ratios when cutting these 2 cameras together.
I wil edit on a MacBookPro 2.8 Ghz Intel Core2, 4 gig ram. FCP 7.02
I am not sure of the best workflow to obtain the optimal final product for these 2 cameras when shooting together. Just As the frame size is of concern, the different codecs are not compatabile in 1 timeline without rendering, and so any help to point me in the correct direction to allow editing in a single timeline would also be appreciated. Apple prores, DVCproHD??? What is the best option.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance.

The biggest problem is not always the resolution differences (although with decent glass the 5D2is going to kill the HVX) but the color rendering, the gamma curve and trying to match like for like shots with similar DOF.

I tend to bring everything in to a ProRes 422 (or LT) sequence but I can see why a DVCProHD could be attractive too. You should be able to mix and match on the timeline without too much trouble (as far as codecs are concerned) but you're going to have to pay much more attention to color grading between the two.

I tend to shoot the 5D2 on neutral with sharpness turned down. I'm also playing with custom picture styles but haven't found any that are an out of the box match.

I recently shot a series of commercials with these 2 cameras and we transcoded the 5D footage to ProRes 422 at 1280x1080 (same aspect ratio as DVCPRO HD) and used that codec for the sequence. Certainly you could transcode to DVCPRO HD and you'd be fine.

As for the camera settings, this is what I did and the color and contrast were very close:

5D MKII - neutral, 2 points +blue, sharpness all the way down, contrast 2 points from the bottom (all other settings in the middle)

HVX200A - set white balance with 1/4 plus green gel over lens, chroma -2, phase +2, color temp -3, cinelike V gamma (all other settings in the middle)

Are there any settings that effect exposure on the Canon 5D other than aperture, iso, shutter speed? Thanks

The gamma curve used in the picture style can have a big impact on what is actually recorded to the card.... but other than that no, Aperture, Shutter and ISO are the big ones.

                I used the preset, actually.
