Should i buy 5D Mk2 or 7D? And what lens with it?

    Hi!

I'm amateur movie maker. I'm considering of buying Canon 5D Mark II or 7D. Which one will you think is better for videos?

Second question is what lens would you recommend with it? For 5D Mk2 lens budget is max ~400 EUR and for 7D max ~700 EUR.

    Thank you.

5d , you have more options with wide angle lenses and you can also crop the footage to 7D field of view .
I would choose 5D over 7D but 1D over 5d if it would be 3:2 original size in video without 16:9 cropping.CAuse 1D is 4 perf movie frame.7D is 3 perf. With 5D you have even more field of view.

...and you will also have only 30fps which you need to convert to 24fps if you need that, but the 7D has 60fps overcrank option with 720p - and 1080p with 24/30fps, not to mention that you can buy lenses cheaper for APS-C than for a full-frame body.

So i think now the 7D is a better idea!

I agree. On the wide end get the Tokina 11-16mm and you are GTG.

yeah depends also on when you need it,you would have only 30p through 2 months or so,until 24p update will be released.
If you want cheaper 7d then wait for 550d to the end of this month.

            5D:

            Low light
            Better Dynamic Range
            Shallower DOF to FOV ratio
            Higher MP stills
            More wide lens options

            7D:
            Closer to s35 sensor size
Cheaper ef-s lenses (although I would recommend getting EF lenses since they retain their value better and they can be used if you ever decide to go FF)
            60P and 24P right now

If you are leaning towards the 7D then I recommend waiting for the new Rebel t2i and either getting a used 7D or a new t2i.
