    So I got the R6.

Spent some time fiddling and moving from total hhaatred to think that it might be workable around.

Moved ISO, Shutter and Iris to different wheels, activated joystick set SET as focus lock (I think) set DOF preview as swap between evf and screen

Set focus mode to lens dial.. struggling to find an elegant way to choose focus mode.

It looks sharp and has not overheated with some donking (burned two batts today) about. Using this for interviews is not on my radar.

Right now working out the relationship between clip log and the histo

Well, if anything the R6 is as good as it gets from a Canon customization standpoint - so if you end up hating it there's nothing better from them (mirrorless').

And you would have to see if Sony is a better fit.

Make sure to change that resolution...

It will be fine, good even

        --

I never customised my FM2 - it had three knobs, iso shutter aperture

I never customised my F4 it had four knobs ISO shutter aperture and C-S-M focus modes

        --

I think it is almost make able to work.

It is just odd. The camera has an excellent mode for filming chopping onions. And another excellent mode for filming concentrated faces as if I were to head out all day to film chopping onions or concentrating faces.

Wheras I go out to do a shotlist.

        Wide, kitchen, chef at work.

        CU hands chop onions.

        CU Chef, face concentrates.

All while having A* Fv P Tv Av C1 C2 C3 and other white noise modes that only serve the possiblilty of ruining shots if enaged by accident.

The most modern me has considered that sports occuring half in midday sun and half in stand shade, might benefit from stom form of auto. Otherwise never.

Have been using the R6 for a while mainly for b-roll, gimbal and photography. No overheating yet but haven't pushed it with any continuous long takes, interviews etc.
The image is nice in 4k, AF is very handy on the gimbal
Slightly disappointing DR and rolling shutter, but what does drive me nuts is that you can't use the touch screen when connecting a monitor with the horrible micro hdmi. They want you to buy the R5 for that kind of simple interaction. With my ageing eyes I would like to use a monitor sometimes when on a tripod and the touch screen would have been very useful for AF

            Good to hear on heat.

Yes focus control is my current challenge because the screen will be off due to using the Evf or an external monitor

I’ve enabled the joystick which (amazingly) default off

            I’ll be working from there!

Yes am getting better with the joystick but is never as agile or immediate as my finger

On the a7Siii you can drag a focus target around with your finger on the touch screen while looking through the EVF, it's surprisingly effective. I think the R6 has something similar.

                  That is indeed possible.

Now I have assigned the DOF button to the EVF or Screen choice that becomes an option. Initially when I wanted the screen off I was folding it away, screen side in to make it register as off. No longer requred as I have a switch to tell the AI if im using the screen or the EVF.

AI cannot automate this task as AI cannot yet tell my eye from my gut or my ar_se from my elbow.

Personally, Sam, I hope AI never gets keen enough to decipher arse's from elbows. I think of it as a bit of job security. But understand your frustrations with modern tech.

(not) Knowing arse from elbow is general uk slang for 'a low level of knowledge'

I dont mind AI or not. But what is the point of building a tech (auto EVF/LCD switch) if it doesnt work. To me clearly the auto mode is infuriating and if anyone had tried it befroe launching the camera it would have become instantly apparent. Nikon Z6 is no better but does have a dedicated button.

                        LOL.

Yeah, that feature doesn't work too well, but there are sensitivity modes for it in some cameras (IDK what the R6 has).

Meaning if the sensitivity is on high, any swipe in front of the motion sensor the camera uses makes the EVF change and it's really annoying.

But if the sensitivity is on low, you really have to get your head up close to it and then it finally changes. IDR exactly which cameras worked liked this but I think they were Panasonic.

I have the Panicsonic GH4 and the eye auto mode is terrible. As I mentioned the Z6 is too.

Coming back to a specific question there seems on the R5 to be a 'restricted shooting mode' which grey out flower mode and other things.

Its on the r5.. but I cant find it on the R6??

                            Edit..
                            Choose an AF mode..
Menu AF4 ->af method sleection control -> main dial.

SO you can press 'box with blobs in button' and then choose focus mode using the 'main dial'

                            to 'limit available AF types'

                            focus4>limit types

Looks great Sam, how do you like the files? That could easily pass for a handful of shots from a netflix drama.

A few years on it seems like the "larger" file size doesn't scare people as much anymore, so the c200 sort of has an in-built shelf life extension.

You need to stop doing grip work and exclusively shoot!
