For me, personally, no HD from any Canon stills camera is usable. Mastering in HD is totally cool and even recommended many times, but you'll have to shoot 4K.

4K is good to go on the R6, very nice.

The thing about this Canon overheating is that it's allegedly based on a timer. I had the same thoughts as you of just being able to shoot some clips here and there, but when I had the R5 and I was in any of the best modes, it didn't matter if I only recorded for a few seconds here and there because an invisible timer started running and the warning was eventually going to pop up and disable the camera.

Again, I don't know what Canon does and I am not accusing them of anything, but many products in our lives are instructed to do things through programming.

I don't know what the overheating situation is today, but that was my early experience.

And yeah...check the camera settings. The default framerate out of the box in all Canon cameras is 1080/60p.

Switch to 4K and it's like a new camera...you truly won't believe it and you'll understand even more about Japanese business practices (at least for a large sector of electronics they control).

The RF in 4k is good you suggest.

One thing Ive not mentioned is I want this little camera to have decent face recognition as it would be the 'easy gimbal' solution (complex gimbal being C200 FIZ) The RF does not have face rec in 4k

In using any camera Im the ultimate battery saver .. switching off after every 15second shot until ready to roll again.

Well I was like that battery scrooge until I hit DOS cameras like the FS7 that take 30s to come to life.

I dont see this (the R6/RF) as a camera Id have to leave on so that the art department can gather around the monitor for a chat and a cuppa (no bad thing BTW)

It is good, but you won't get any usable AF in 4K, they disabled it...meaning there is a difference in the AF between 1080p and 4K.

        Insane, right?

There aren't too many options...which is your original observation.

By the way, I keep saying 60p because I'm not used to saying 50p, but same thing.

Maybe not a week, but eventually if it overheats on you at some critical point, especially when you realize how much you like 4K/60p and its eye-AF.

Forget about face-AF...once you see eye-AF it's at first sight.

                            My current feeling is..

The main thing is for this cam to live with a 24-70 or 24-105 and be around near me or on a gimbal. Face rec is critical.

As I probably wont swap around too much lenses with hte C200 maybe it doesnt even need to ba a canon lens/canon body

people point out that you probably get more from sony or fuji in the price class and both have 24-70 glas.

I doesnt need to be canon. I hear this.

But I think in the bigger picture just going canon is simplest and probably worth $500 to get similar controls and start with the RF glass system.

LCE are offereing me good terms to return in the first week. This gives me a chance to test for overheat in my own style.

That gives the confidence to buy???

I think you should go with the R6...blame me if it doesn't work out.

The file is 50p so you may be using an old timeline. And I would have said you may need some post-production assistance, but that C200 footage you posted looks great.

it seems to me like the R6 doesn't have any overheat-free safe modes like the R5 has...
4K in 24p is measured closed to an hour and a half. 60p is a lot shorter.
