For me, personally, no HD from any Canon stills camera is usable. Mastering in HD is totally cool and even recommended many times, but you'll have to shoot 4K.
4K is good to go on the R6, very nice.
The thing about this Canon overheating is that it's allegedly based on a timer. I had the same thoughts as you of just being able to shoot some clips here and there, but when I had the R5 and I was in any of the best modes, it didn't matter if I only recorded for a few seconds here and there because an invisible timer started running and the warning was eventually going to pop up and disable the camera.
Again, I don't know what Canon does and I am not accusing them of anything, but many products in our lives are instructed to do things through programming.
I don't know what the overheating situation is today, but that was my early experience.
And yeah...check the camera settings. The default framerate out of the box in all Canon cameras is 1080/60p.
Switch to 4K and it's like a new camera...you truly won't believe it and you'll understand even more about Japanese business practices (at least for a large sector of electronics they control).
