    Question about audio/video not synching

I'm new so I apologize if I'm asking in the wrong place - or even the wrong forum. I did sign up on a YouTube forum but a month(!) later am still waiting approval.

As you may have surmised, I do YouTube videos (and am somewhat new to it). I use - because I find it easy - Moviemaker. I've done enough videos now that I do know how to pair my video clips with my audio, and so far, 20 videos in I've had zero problems. But then a video I did a few weeks ago (even took it down, tinkered with it just in case I'd missed something and reloaded it on to YT) is completely out of whack. Again, I've done a bunch now with no problem. When I watch it in Moviemaker it's perfect but goes completely off the rails within a minute or so on YT. I'm happy to providethe link if it's allowed and if anyone wants to take a look. I don't get what's happening. Can anyone help?

    Thank you.

What format are you uploading to YouTube in? For the audio to go out of sync makes me wonder if YouTube is having to ‘fix it’ when it’s encoded and squashed, and thus is the snag?

Generally, YT's conversion process seems to work decently with AVC/AAC source files. However there are many factors the can affect uniform playback and A/V sync regardless of the source media. The PC, smartphone, router, browser, internet connection & speed are only a few.

Wow thanks for the replies. My apologies for taking so long to respond. I don't know if I understand let alone know how to reply. Here is the link to the video 👉 https://youtu.be/gHHF9gom9Zs

That's quite a big time discrepancy - many seconds - if the audio 1-2-3 and the video 1-2-3 should be together. It's like the project settings are wrong - so you have the sound running at 30 frames a second and the sound is at 25? or could it be a 44.1/48K conflict - these can cause the sound to drift - but usually with pitch change and I assume there isn't one?

I know - can you export the video only - and see how long it lasts, then export only the audio (any format for the test) and check the running time on that. They should both be the same length - I bet the audio is shorter?

Hi, I replied (above) with the link. I've done about 20 videos with audio. I record the audio and then added it to the video. The video noted is the only one with problems - and it becomes very noticeable about a minute in. I've gone over it numerous times and have re-uploaded it and each time the same thing. I'm wondering if the "countdown clock" is somehow throwing it off but I don't know why. Again, in Moviemaker it is perfectly synced. Thank you.

Not sure about Moviemaker but some NLE's do not like mp3. Try converting to wav file if you have been using mp3 or similar encoded audio.

Thanks for helping. I do the video (clips) and the audio separately. Not to make people look at my videos lol but each one was done exactly the same (putting video and adding audio) in Moviemaker. Not one of my other 25 videos are off. Only this one. In Moviemaker it is perfect (and looks just like all the others I've done) but then it goes nuts. I honestly should just take it down but then learned you lose views when you take a video down(!) That is so wrong in so many ways. Now, all my videos have very few views (which I tell myself is *the uphill climb* you have to make.) And perhaps that is why I can't just delete it (again). Yet I'd do it if I thought I could fix it and re upload it.

I know only the very basics. I only used Moviemaker because it was so easy. Add clip. Add audio. I'm not a professional like many on this forum probably are.

The important thing is that if your work flow is the same then it is likely the fault is in one of the files. If neither jump, it’s some kind of speed issue. In the way you are working, do you have to trim the end of the vision and sound? I assume you edit the picture to the sound? Maybe you adjusted a point and it changed the duration accidentally, if your software can do this? To be honest when these things happen, I’d just go back to an earlier version that was ok, and re-edit from there.

You are all great and I really appreciate your looking and giving me your opinion. I guess this one video is just a fluke. I'm probably 😒 going to take it down. I honestly don't think it's something that's going to work on YT anyway. While I think it works on my podcast on YT I don't think kid's trivia is an interest.
