Default AutoDesk owns the world?

I didn't notice until the recent Alias aquisition, but AutoDesk seems to be buying everyone out. When did AutoDesk buyout Discreet (or have they always owned them)? How will Maya and Max coexist with each other? Are we going to see better integration with Combustion and Maya now (ala Maya/Shake or Max/Combustion)? I question if AutoDesk owning two rival companies is a good thing, but after seeing what Adobe has done with Macromedia, I guess it can be done.

They have said that Maya and Max will be seperate for a while, but they are slowly going to build intergration between the two. Autodesk now owns the two biggest platforms out there for movies and games, so it's a smart move for them to intergrate the two. This is how the future of 3D is evolving, studios share the elements from the movie with the game developer (the new King Kong game, for example)

I think it will be good, but like Rich said, only time will tell.

This is all history repeating...

Alias, Wavefront, TDI... the many owners of Softimage... Hehe.. lets
not forget that Microsoft even owned SI and the XSI precursor for a while

We've seen all this before and in the end the apps keep evolving. Few
years back, everyone was totally counting SI out of the running as their
MS/AVID transitions stalled development for so long.
