WATCH STARWARS TOYS GET SMASHED!

A Short by Jordan Vogt-Roberts

I've been a member of these forums for quite some time but I haven't been posting much these days. For a long time now I've wanted to do two things (well... more than two things, but only these two are relevant to this post). The FIRST desire was to enter one of the DVX festivals - but I've just been busy with work and generally haven't had right idea. The SECOND desire was to do something with all of my relatively useless childhood Star Wars toys that I collected as a young lad by raking lawns and shoveling snow. I don't really want to display them, I don't really want them, they're not worth too much money anymore, and lord knows Lucas did a number on my childhood with the prequels. I've wanted to incorporate them into a film for quite a while.

This was the opportunity I was looking for.

I don't really want to tell you much of what the short is about, as i'd rather have you just watch it. I think the back story should suffice. I work as a comedy director and I started in Chicago with a lot of stand ups and improvisers. One of my good buddies from Chicago was going to be in LA from NYC for a weekend and we decided we would make a no-budget short with my toys and improvise the majority of the beats. We both had pretty hectic schedules so we had about 5 hours to shoot, which honestly, after months of drowning myself on free perrier during development meetings in Beverly Hills... was a welcome break.

I had my brilliant collaborator and DVXuser regular Matt Garret as DP, and we made the most of what we could with a crew made of friends and available equipment. Matt brought in other DVX regulars David Carstens and Geoff Risner who were doubly awesome.

The cast is made up of: Thomas Middleditch(Spinterheads - premiering at SXSW next week), Naomi Leonard, and T.J. Miller (Carpoolers, Cloverfield).

More to come!

Just wanted to give an update:

We finished the coloring in Lustre yesterday. We worked with an incredibly talented colorist who we'll talk more about a little later.

We have scoring session tomorrow and we've got to do some compositing still.

The last step is mixing and sound design, which most of my usual people are super busy right now. Does anyone have a suggestion for good mixers/designers? PM me or email me at jordanroberts at gmail dot com

beyond that little speed bump everything is looking good for an upload sunday night/monday morning.

Really excited that you guys are interested in this one. I think it should be a nice addition to a festival with some other really good looking shorts.

Wow! Quite the cast (and Director)!!! And the screen grabs look great (love the one of the girl in front of all the Star Wars goodies)!

Really can't wait to see this!

I heard this film has Jar-Jar Binks in it. He's my favorite!
