Exclamation Question for mac users

just a fast question for mac users, can the newest FCP handle hvx200 mxf files
at 720 natively and more important 1080 also? can it remove the pulldown from 108024PA natively or do you have to go somewhere else??

thanks guys

reason why I ask is because I might be making the switch pretty soon

FCP still doesn't handle MXF files natively, but I use Raylight and that has eliminated the need to Log and Transfer or convert the files to QuickTime before I can edit.

Even without Raylight, you view the MXF files in a log and transfer window as Kevin mentioned, pick the ones you want, even set in and out points and then they are trasnfered into FCP, still DVCproHD but now in a QT rapper.

Not as cool as dragging and dropping MXF into the timeline but still way better / easier than tape.

And yeah it will apply advanced pulldown for you on transfer.

man that is some BS, all this time I thought everyone praised the mac because how easy it was to edit mxf files from the hvx and now you're telling me that you cannot edit natively on FCP, now this is a surprize

Hmmm ... its integrated with P2 ... maybe that's what people talk about?

In a certain sense it trumps Vegas because at least it has a "native" log and transfer window. Vegas can edit MXF when you buy raylight. (or so I understand)

FCP can edit MXF when you buy raylight.

But really, you have to backup all your footage anyway since there's no tape archive. So when you use the log and transfer window you wind up with a QT copy in addition to the original MXF copy from the P2 card.

I don't have raylight, but it allows you to drop MXF files right into your timeline.

You just skip the part where you change from the MXF wrapper to the QT wrapper.

Also my understanding is that you can keep some of the meta data from the card.

Well you can review in the field on a laptop instantly via the log and transfer window.

If you just import a card ... hmmm ... never really payed attention ... on my imac? 5 or 10 minutes? but you can be working while it does that in the background.
