Default New Guy Here

Hello folks, I am a complete Newbie and just ordered a DVX100B today...I joined here as a member and plan to learn all I can about my DVX in the near future..However my question is, right outta the box how is the auto focus, pretty good quality, ease of use...so on and so forth..

I will eventually want to know it all but for now will be leaning on the auto function for the first few hours of filming...Any un-forseen problems???

Is this a camera I can get out of the box and be filiming with as soon as I charge the battery, or is it a bit more complicated than that??

Thanks in advance!

Well, sure, you can shoot right out of the box. But don't expect magic. Used properly, the DVX can give you footage which will take your breath away, but you have to use it properly, and that comes with only learning and practice, as well as a lot of stuff external to the camera. (You have to point it at something pretty in order to get pretty pictures. )

Auto functions should be abandoned ASAP, but there's no harm in using them at first. Just don't get comfortable.

Autofocus is slow in 24p mode, but that may not be a problem for you. I would try to wean myself off autoexposure first, as it can be really distracting to have the iris change in the middle of a shot. The ND filters aren't automatically engaged anyway.

Welcome aboard Snide. The DVX will take amazing shots. Look at the Surel video on my website. It is a DVX cut with 35mm. I think this will illustrate how good the camera can be. Website: lizardlandvideo.com

Hey Snide, I would have to agree with iain.bason. Not only is it distracting, but generally a little over-exposed in auto mode. And the auto focus can be a little annoying to watch it "seek" the proper focus. Maybe practice manual focusing when messing with it.

Default Must Have!

Snide,

The DVX still kicks major butt, even with HD being the standard now... Great buy!

So, this is my biggest suggestion: http://www.dvxuser.com/articles/dvxbook/

Buy, read it and read it again, and again, and again.... Oh yeah, then read it again!!!

Oh, and one more thing, spare yourself the embarrassment and don't ask in a post "What that clicking sound is?" when you eagerly pull the cam out of the box. It's normal! Check this out (if you haven't already): http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=48809

Peace....
