I love my hDLSR, but I don't understand why people insist on comparing it to a RED? If I had the money and the access and the setup ability of a narrative feature, I'd use the RED. For run and gun, my budget, and lots of other stuff, I like my little GH1. It's apples and oranges!

True, and the nice thing about skateboards is that they can take you into places where a 747 never can fit.

Yes they most certainly can. That's an excellent observation and ties in with what I'm saying -- these are unique products, use them for what they're best at, don't try to use a butterknife to cut a tree branch. Or kill a fly with an elephant gun.

I wish I was cool enough to think of some more analogies

Those analogies only apply to traditional "filmmaking". Again, what percentage of vDSLR shooters are attempting traditional "filmmaking"? .01%? .001%?

You shouldn't bring a 7D to a gunfight. You should bring a Red to a gunfight, and get it in 120 frames a second at high res. Okay never mind.

I think RED is supposed to be outside the confines of 'traditional' filmmaking, also. Trust me, I'll certainly be shooting on a DSLR, but if more money and support was there, the RED would be a serious consideration for all the reasons it's amazing and still 'cutting edge' in comparison to 35mm film or $150,000 Sony Cameras...

RED all the way.

7D has uses, but the RED is a filmmaking camera.

I agree. If you have the RED at your disposal you would be crazy not to shoot with it.
