I am a major nOOb to P2 and the HVX 200a. So I have a major shoot coming up and I got the brainiac idea to rent a HVX 200a because I will have to do a lot of editing and dumping on the road. The whole idea was to use the P2 cards because supposedly they are easy to deal with on a PC. I cannot figure out how to do anything with the audio. I can get the MXF video files converted to something that I can edit, but cannot find any software (that actually works as it claims) to recode the audio. On another note...does anybody know a piece of software that will merge the audio with the video seamlessly to make one file? This has been an exhausting night and any help will be MUCH appreciated.
Windows 32 bit Vista operating system...no firewire ports on my laptop. |

I am doing something entirely wrong and the audio is not MXF....this is so frustrating.

If you're on the PC, why are you converting the files at all? All major PC NLEs support the MXF files directly, just drag 'em to the timeline and they'll bring in their audio too.

Thank you SO MUCH for your reply....i am pretty new to this and have always used Power Director 8 to edit...this is a hobby. Photography is really "what I do." Can you give me an example of a NLE that will not break my bank and will produce into a format for uploading to youtube, vimeo, etc?

So you are saying pull the files directly from the p2 or transfer them to my computer and then place them on the time line? because they are separate when viewing them on the p2. as you know, one is in the audio folder and the other in the movie folder. so sorry to bother with such ridiculously new questions, but trust me, i tried everything i could on my own. thanks again!

Well, if you're editing in something like Power Director then yes you'd have to convert files. I was talking about traditional NLEs like Avid, Adobe Premiere Pro, Grass Valley EDIUS, even NewTek SpeedEdit.
Yes, with all of those, you just drag the video file to the timeline, and the computer automatically knows about the audio and brings it in as well. You could probably use something like Raylight to convert files to AVI files for continued use with Power Director...
