Default HPX 170 & Nanoflash

Just wondering if there are any HPX 170 users who have purchased and are using a Nanoflash with their cameras and if so, what has been your experience in regards to the resultant image quality, CF card recording, mounting, etc.

Thank you in advance.

Well, given the lack of response, it appears that no one on this forum is using the aforementioned combo. I have queried several other forums and it appears that with the exception of one individual who is using the nanoflash with his HPX 500, most others are using it with EX series cameras. The Convergent Design Sales Mgr. has stated on Creative Cow that they have tested the device with the Hpx 170 but did not include any information as to whether there was any noted benefit from the combination other than the ability to use CF cards. A telephone conversation with that same individual was even less revealing... he apparently did not recall his Creative Cow post.

So, if the only advantage turns out to be the CF cards, there may still be reason to consider the purchase given that the Panasonic 5 card reader sells for about $1900.00 and you still need P2 cards, whereas, for another $900.00 (less than the cost of one 64GB P2 "E" card) you could buy the Nanoflash, which affords one the use of less expensive CF cards and the ability to transfer data to computer with an inexpensive and readily available card reader. Food for thought! Unfortunately, the original question remains unanswered, although, I suspect that since the 170 is already recording 4.2.2 at 100Mbs that there would be little if any other benefit from the 170/Nanoflash combination. I will add, however, that the gentleman with the Hpx500 did say that he has noted an increase in image detail with the use of the Nanoflash.

Well with the P2 E-Series cards, for around 1000$ you get an hour of 1080p recording time - enough for most needs...
This Nanoflash should have come out 2 years ago and would have sold like bread...

True, but with the Nanoflash you are recording uncompressed data from the SDI port and at the same time recording to much less costly CF cards. The device also offers the potential for different data rates and codec. Transfer time is diminished with a decent firewire 800 (i.e. Lexar) CF card reader and you do not have to tie up your camera during the offload process. With P2, unless you have an express card capable MacBook, the only option for offload, other than from the camera via firewire, is Panasonic's costly reader, unless, you are recording to something like a Firestore. Furthermore, the nanoflash can be used with any other camera in your stable that offers SDI or HDMI output. I my case, that would be an Ex3 and the 170 and the addition of the Nano would allow for standardization of format and data transfer. (BTW, DISCLAIMER: I have no interest the company, just an concerned consumer searching for opinions).
