I'm working on a DVCPRO stream recovery software, (when a copy of OnLocation, HD-Monitor and Others crash out during record) and was trying to see if with a missing quicktime container I could "guess" whether the stream was at 60p or 30p, I ran it twice against the same source and got both a 59.94 timed file @ duration 1 and a 29.97 file at duration 2 - as far as I know most folks are not able to record via firewire in anything but 720p30 or 720p60 - any of the special codecs are not supported, so the cam may run at 24P filmcam mode, but will send a p60 stream back. - As Barry pointed out, there is apparently a space saver mode in OnLocation which I have to look into as well. -

The tricky part is Quicktime sets duration in frames not in absolute time so between 30p and 60p its hard to tell If I've recovered/reindex all the frame headers or only half of them.

DVCPRO50 uses two codecs ganged together, DVCPRO-HD uses 4. However, DVCPRO50 and DVCPRO-HD also get 4:2:2 color, so I'm not 100% sure how they use those 4 DV codecs in parallel, because DV in and of itself is 4:1:1.
This might give a clue - this is a screen-shot of the DVCPRO-HD stream falling apart,
you can see geometric correlation in distortion. This looks like a 5x5 block matrix at 720. Each one of these is further subdivided into 4x4 and further subdivided smaller blocks - So the checkerboard is really 20x20 @ 720 (divisible by 4.)
