I am in the process of decision making on the purchase of a Car Mounting System ofr my HVX200a... I've been checking out different rigs by Matthews, etc. and wanted to hear about other users experiences with car mounts. i would like to get the most flexible system for hood, dash and door mounting.
Thanks for your input... |

google australian saddle bag.
basically the bag is stitched into a horse saddle-looking, filled w/ ~3/16"dia styrofoam ball, then use bungee cords to universally tie to diff point of car. some guy imitate the product and provide a video w/ awesome result. it's the same concept as sand bag but shaped differently and w/ diff material. search on this board also.

Thanks for the response. I'm rather wary of using bungy cords to anchor any sort of car mount... how do the cords connect to the car hood, door, etc?
I've pretty much made up my mind to get the Matthews system since it has multiple suction mounting points. I'd still have a safety made from 1" climbing webbing connected to my HVX 200a... just in case! |

If you can afford the Matthews, you'll be happy. After using real car mounts, I shudder when I look at some of the less expensive alternatives.
Are you going to get both the hood and Hostess? They are mutually exclusive, you would need both, because they cannot do each other's job. I've never used a dash mount system, I just don't like to have the camera so close to the subject. You will get lots of advice from people who own cheaper alternatives, my guess is they haven't used a real solid system. If you can get to a rental house and test it out, it will help you make up your mind. |

Take a look at the Sticky Pod. I have the Director series. It cost $679. They make less expensive series'. I mount mine in the cab of a semi-truck.

the inventor uses diff types of anchor, hooks.
google australian cinesaddle. the company charges about 400bucks but some guy was able to spend about 50bucks to have it made by a seamstress. the main components are: canvas material and Styrofoam balls.

I've looked at the hostess tray mount... OUCH $$$. I think I'm going to go with theMatthews hood mount with the stabilizer system (2 extra suction cups to form a triangular frame) and the ala carte pieces to make a door mount. I can reuse the pieces to make a solid dashboard frame for shooting forward looking shots. Also going to get more Lowel grip pieces to mount the camera on a pole from the back seat of my Saab.
It should be here on Tuesday... from Film Tools. Will try it out and file a review when I have the time. Is anyone using the Matthews Round D Round Dolly? Looking at this Dolly for future purchase. Thanks, |

You can make your own with industrial floor tile suction cups and the high hat of you choice. This is what expensive set ups use and you can save a boatload just fabbinf yourself. You can also customize per application much easier when you made the mount.
I otta use em more often, it would seem... http://videos.streetfire.net/video/G...ter_636103.htm lol |
