Final Cut Studio 2.0 - P2 import problems

    Folks,

We just got our copy of FCS 2 in the mail yesterday, and installed immediately - we're between projects so we had the time. Putting it through its paces though, we ran up against a problem. We cant seem to import any P2 footage. We had this working fine in the previous version.

We typically hook up our Firestore drive after an "organize P2" - copy the CONTENTS and LASTCLIP.TXT to our project folder, and in FCP, go to the "IMPORT -> Panasonic P2" menu item. In FCS 2, this has been changed to the "Log and Transfer" window. We select our CONTENT folder and all the clips show up fine, we can select each one and scrub and preview in the window. But drag any clip down to the Queue, and the litte circular arrow spins for a while, then turns into a red exclamation mark. We know the footage is good, we've imported it into our edius systems with no problem.

Anyone have any idea whats happening?

    Adrian L.

I was having the same issue with transporting from the camera.

For some reason, if you close down FCP and open it up again, it works fine once more. But it's really annoying and they need to fix this bug asap.

My install was from a CLEAN install. I ended up reinstalling OS X entirely so the solution probably will not be reinstalling FCS2.

I think it's a bug altogether. I haven't tried Log and Transfer from a drive yet.

Why not try Raylight for the Mac and skip the Log and transfer process altogether?

Thats not working for me either. Even after quitting and restarting FCP, the clips wont import. This is a serious showstopper - how did Apple release the software like this?

Was looking forward to playing with COLOR.

I moderate elsewhere in p2 card issues and FCP.

Your's is the very first issue I've seen.

Did you do a clean install of OS with updates and then FCS2?

Or install over the existing app?

repair permissions, and trash the FCP plist before and after the install?

RAM, OS, and QT v numbers

    give us some details

Hmmm.. I'm not having a problem with P2 and FCP 6/FCS 2 either.

Please tell us more of your system specifics as well as your upgrade procedures.

Upgrade procedure was an upgrade over the existing Final Cut 5. We didnt remove previous version first, didnt think we could as we purchased the upgrade version of FCS 2.

We have tried trashing FC 6 preferences - hasnt helped.

Are we supposed to do a clean install of the OS before updating? Surely not. As far as repairing permissions... not sure what you mean by that. We trashed preferences AFTER we noticed the problem - not before the upgrade - just didnt occur to us that we should.

Would appreciate your help resolving this, David.
