    Will Sony tapes damage DVX100A

Because of the info I have read here, I have only used Pan AY-DVM63MQ tapes in my DVX100A.

My friend sold his Sony PD170 and gave me 20 new unopened Sony DVM60PRL tapes assuming I would be able to use them in my camera.

Please let me know if I can in fact use the Sony tapes without damaging my camera.

    Thank you

Yes, you can use sony tapes. as long as you clean the heads first by a dvtape cleaner before putting them. to take out the residue of the panasonic tapes. ive been using sony tapes for DVX100 for a long time now and its still workin!

I think Sony and Pana tapes are ok, Just they use different libricant, so like Dayu said run a cleaner before you switch, but whatever you choose try to stick with the same tapes for a while. its when you jump form different tapes that I have run into problems, and mostly stay away form those TDK's and cheap costco tapes. I have had numerous times bad issues with that early on.

    Thanks for all the info.

Its good to know I can take advantage of this surprise gift. I thought I was going to have to give them all away.

Supposedly they don't even use different lubricant types anymore according to an article I read. This could be wrong so don't take that to the bank. I never switch brands. Stick with one type or another to play it safe.

Here's what I use now that AY-DVM63MQ's are no longer out there.
