    Hoodman H-2 (P2 cards)

Just checked in with Hoodman, who was showing their own version of P2 cards at NAB this year. They said the new firmware upgrade for the HVX has set them back, and they now expect to be shipping cards by late summer. They will be priced 10 to 15% less than the Panasonic cards, and will start with a 16GB card, and have a 32GB card available not long after.

Wonder why the firmware "set them back?"

    They knew it was coming.

    Kinda of interesting.

And I thought originally it was going to be 20-30% cheaper...

At 10 to 15% many may not be willing to take the risk. If it was 20 or 30% a few more people would be interested. I think the pricing by panasonic took them by suprise.

And as Barry pointed out in another thread, the firmware update was released ahead of schedule.

Even so, the firmware revision may have had something that they didnt account for, and had to make adjustments to.

Hats off to them for even trying to make the card in the 1st place, if they pull it off, more power to them. If they dont, well... nothing ventured, nothing gained... right

Even if it's only 10% less, it's still something that I think the user base would welcome, if only because it gives us a second supply source! With the current dearth of P2 cards, having a second independent supplier can only be viewed as a good thing, right? (presuming that they are, of course, 100% reliable and usable; if they're not, no professional would even consider them, so they wouldn't truly "be" a second source).

10%, 20%, 30%, it's all good, just so long as they appear on the market, work, and give us options...

It might also be interesting if they release the 32gig before panasonic.

Dare i say it... they probably can't. Where would the requisite HVX firmware upgrade come from?
"I'd like to say that I've never come across two know nothing pretenders on the weird wide web before, but unfortunately it's all too common and is exactly why, according to the last government survey, only 5% of all internet users ever use forums or chats. And it's exactly why I'm done with this one. You two really need to get jobs and out of your mother's basements. You can't fix stupid. And I don't have time for stupid." -swoopie

There's a good chance this one firmware upgrade should be the last one needed. The 8GB firmware upgrade (from 4GB) was needed to handle split files across the FAT32 4GB file size limit, and the new upgrade was needed to handle the "R" series, but it may be that this firmware upgrade will be the one that "sticks"...

I hope they do rush a 32GB card out, that'd be awesome. It'd be more awesome if they'd fly up to 128GB sooner rather than later!
