I have been working with Pelican to make a case for the 500. Right now I am suffering through the pluck and pull foam but eventually we will have custome foam in it. The case will also hold the BT-LH80W monitor, the P2 Gear, batteries, a passel of P2 cards, tripod plate and the AJ-RC10, which if you don't have one of those, then it will make a nice place to put a number of other items.
Case won't be done for a month or so.
Don't remember the number of the case we started with, sorry, but I am thinking it will be a very nice case.

Awesome!
Is there a size that can hold the camera body and remain within airline carry-on limits?

There might be in their soft case products, but not in the hard case.
At least as far as I could tell.

Just wanted to check in and see if there was any update on the case. We're filming boot camp and going to use the HPX in a couple weeks.

I am using a pelican 1650 - its large - but i quickly used the space with batteries - charger, viewfinder. Didnt even get the lens and follow focus and mattebox in there - needed another case for those.

I asked Jan about the custom case for the HPX500 and she said that it should be shipping by mid August. Below is her reply.
----------------------------------
I am thinking we will start shiupping in mid August at the latest.
It is a very cool case, in that it does have rom for hte camera with lens and VF, plus the 8" monitor , a P2 Gear or stoe, P2 cards, cables and batteries. List price will be in the $650 range and it will be solid foam, not the pick and pluck. I am prety jazzed about it.

Just waiting on our HPX to arrive and would love a Pelican case to keep it safe. Where do I buy the case you are discussing here.
Thanks, Ian

Robert Lane's convincing testimonial of Pelican cases has had me waiting for this case as well.. I have always carried my cameras on, but these days that's getting more problematic - and I'm going to be shooting in seven Eastern and mid-west states (all domestic travel) in October..
So, when and where will I get this case?
And, also, has anyone tried to carry on a 500, dissassembled of course, in a PortaBrace carry-on? (the one that's exactly carry-on size, 45" total, with the cover) - that's what I've used for my super16mm camera in the past...

I carry my DSR 450 in a Storm iM2600. It will go in BA lockers and even Easyjet. Not sure about US carriers though.
The case will fit the camera, wide angle lens and even my Powerbook. Not sure if it would fit a HPX though. You have to remove the lens and battery obviously.
Don't let the lack of a "Peli" badge worry you. Storm cases are just as good, if not better IMHO.
