I see this is listed on the Panny site as a "Remote Control Unit" but no description or picture. Anyone know what this will do? Is is a paint box???

Hi,
Yes it is a paint box. It is a multipurpose one as it works with a number of cameras. When connected to the HPX500 it works those color controls that the HPX has, but it does not allow for 12 point color correction as it would it it were hooked up to the AJ-HPX2000.
Hope that helps,

Hi Jan,
I am inerested in putting together a flypack with 3 hpx-500 cameras. Will these
AJ-RC10G
Boxes allow me to control iris and color over long runs for remote studio production?
Is this a good choice for that kind of work?
We are also looking at the
Panasonic AVHS300G Switcher and BT-LH1700W LCD Monitors for Preview and Program.

I think this box paired up with a camplex unit is what you need. I don't think this paint. Box will carry video back to your switcher or tally, intercom, and power to your camera. That's what camplex is needed for.

Actually this AJ-RC10 will do the paint. It will not carry the video of intercom, that is what the Camplex would be for. But you don't need that if you bundle your own cable set.

ooops. I meant to say "I dont think this paint box will carry video back to your switcher or tally, intercom, and power to your camera."
I typed that message on my iPhone so I didn't catch that.
Bundling your own cable is great in a studio, but doesn't work very well when out in the field and especially for long runs out in the field. Thats what makes camplex so great. You can just run one single coax for SD and a coax and fiber for HD.

hi !
i am unschooled in video technicalities, but i bought an RC-10G for my hpx500, and im having trouble figuring the thing out. lots of buttons that dont seem to do anything. mainly i just dont understand the instruction manual. i was hoping it would help, but it just says stuff like *MPED rotary dail... adjusts MPED*.
Is there anybody here who knows how to use this thing?
Or how i can find out how to use this it?
Im gonna post a job ad for a bit of tutoring on it in vancouver.
thanks

I would say work to understand the manual. If you are unschooled in the technicalities of the video signal, perhaps a read through one of Barry Green's books might help, I would recommend the HVX200/HPX170 book, I think they are available on this website. As an example MPed is master pedestal. If you still don't know what that means, then you really need to read Barry's book plus a few others that talk about the components of the video signal.
Best,
Jan
