First off be aware that I'm an HD NEWBIE and I have a question about producing a product in HD.
I just bought my HVX200 and I use Avid (HD) to edit. I realized that the end product on DVD wouldn't be HD. Some film festivals require an HD or film format and they say they will let you know which HD format they will need, most likely HDCAM. Any way, the next thing that pops into my head is what's the point of all this HD if in the end for most is standard DVD? It's only recently that Blue Ray and other HD DVD burners are available.
I hear some wedding videographers touting that they use HD camera but it doesn't matter if they give the couple a standard DVD right?
Any way, I hope I've made my quandary clear and if I've missed the boat let me know and if I've hit the nail on the head but if there is clear advantage let me know too.
I am really excited about going HD and I know it's the future but I would also like to use it to it's fullest in the now if you know what I mean.
Thanks in advance.

Shooting stuff in HD produces a better looking standard DVD than shooting DV to begin with. Mind you that all depends on who's shooting but you get my drift.

I was thinking the same thing, plus in the future when the next gen dvd hd format is set, you'll be able make those hd dvd's and update your old sd dvd's.

I'll second this. Our 720/24p source footage in a SD DVD is so much better than anything else.

OK, so I'm understanding it correctly. I guess it's not too far away in terms of burning your HD projects to HD DVD or Blue Ray (although a little pricey).
I'll post my next dumb question on a new thread.
Thanks guys.

The prices will slowly drop down for Blu Ray (which I think pretty much already won) burners and media a year or more after they come out.

Remember, it's blu ray, not BLUE ray.
We get about 40 minutes of 720/24p on a red

The biggest hang-up will be authoring a blu-ray disc....
Hopefully Apple will be updating DVD SP quickly after
it rolls FCS 2 out the door.

What's the Point?
