Just wondering if anyone's had a chance to check out Silicon Imaging's booth? I have an SI-2K Mini that I just rented to a feature (I think they may have used some footage at NAB) but I'm really interested in the full DVR section of the camera.

I think the design looks fantastic (by P+S Technik). Anyone get a look close up?

    Cheers.

I've only had the chance to view a couple of the videos at FreshDV.com. It appears to be a great site.

Thanks for the link. Are you affiliated with it?

    If so very nice job.

I spent some time in the booth with Ari Presler and Jason Rodriguez on Thursday. The had both the Mini and Maxi on display with viewable images for both. the camera really looked very good from an image standpoint and we were viewing on a large, I'd say a 50 inch display. I got the tour of how LUTs can be applied over the raw image... the touch screen interface for the camera, built in capabilities etc.

Base EI of the camera is about 400~ish and its very clean at that.

Really a good effort by the SI guys and a very interesting camera...

And no, they did not require any one to drink cool-aid.

I've been watching your site. No SI-2K footage yet? Just checking. If I upgrade my cam by the end of the month I get the NAB promotional discount ... hence my bugging you for info!

I don't get the joke about drinking cool-aid

    Hi,
Yes I'm one of the Editors of the site and I hosted the show, did the interviews. Matt Jeppsen is the other Editor and he did all the camera work. P&S will be the next podcast up they will be discussing the SI-2K as well as the role they played in the design and some of the functionality they brought to the new body design. They will also be discussing a super hot new mini-35 adapter and their Digital35 primes. I'll try and get an estimate of when MAtt will have that one up I know its the one he is currently editing.

    Drinking Cool Aid.

A reference to the Jonestown event in the late 70's

There was a religious cult started by a guy named Jim Jones and they had a compound in Guyana.

Like any good cult there were power/sex/control issues. Several congressmen went to visit the compound and see what was going on under some pressure from constituents and news stories. Jones sent some followers with guns to the airstrip where the delegation landed and killed a bunch of people. Back at the compound Jones instructed all the faithful members to drink a "cool aid " that was prepared with some poison, maybe cyanide. I think 900 some people died in a mass suicide by "drinking the cool aid" after being ordered to do so by the cult leader.

A galncing reference to the cult status of RED the new Ipod of cinema

Yeah I remember Jonestown, but didn't make the connection.

But I did notice the weird enthusiasm when the latest delay was announced. One person out of 50 had the guts to say "Gee, I'm kinda disappointed because now I'll have to shoot my planned feature on something else". (paraphrased) The rest SEEMED to be "Hey! That's super! A delay! Thanks, Jim!"

I'm really excited about the Red too. And, I really do think that Jim Jannard is a rebel and a revolutionary, and kudos to him and his team.

Hope I'm not offending anyone. I just think it's weird. Maybe people are just sooooo excited. And drunk.
