Just thought I'd drop a line to say it IS possible to produce a successful International feature film with the DVX for next to nothing. Some airline tickets, a very small but willing cast and crew and five weeks of shooting in Thailand and Cambodia gave us most of the footage we needed. Almost two years of slow-brewed FCP Pro editing and a few weekend pickups and it was ready for Slamdance in Park City. Great reviews:

...and a newly aquired sales agent, and maybe we'll even get distribution, but I'm not holding my breath... Bottom line is that for two years I was involved in something creative and rewarding. Do it.

And if you live in LA, here's a shameless plug: Screening Thur. Mar. 29th 7:30 at the Egyptian theater in Hollywood. It holds 600 people so I'm a bit nervous about filling it. More info on our website:

Colin did you have a crew or was it... more or less a one two man deal...

I sent the link to an actor friend in LA... he's half Thai... so maybe he can invite all his friends to come...

    Looked good...

We started with three actor/producers and a very talented and adept cinematographer. By dumb luck we stumbled across Oliver Stone's locations manager who got us all the rest of the locations, actors and crew we needed for all of our days in Thailand, AND he had a pick-up truck, AND he's was the nicest of guys. We used a small lighting kit when needed, a good set of wireless mics, and not much else. Set/production design was all about choosing great locations which is not that hard over there. Everything is beautiful.

    Hope that helps.

We didn't use professional crew and thus didn't pay those rates...

Anyway, his name is Somchai Santhrangkun.

Also, if you're planning on shooting in Thailand and want to save money, just get away from bangkok. Everything costs twice as much there. I highly recommend Chiang Mai. It has areas that look like Bangkok and more rural stuff within a few minutes drive. What are you shooting?

The rural stuff is what we'd be looking at... A horror feature...

My friend is coming to the screening... his name is Tom...

Yes, carefully cc'd in Final Cut, but nothing else magical. Cambodia just looks cool.
