I give up, I have tried so many options and i can't really find a good way to compress 24p footage for youtube to maintain the best level of quality and NOT LOSE AUDIO SYNC.

do any of you have advice?

    Hey buddy
Do a search because i know someone got really good results using .flv i think not sure bout audio sync though. That must be more silly you tube shenanigans!

Just because it stuck with me and it happens to be a channel I'm watching but this guy is doing it right. His FAQ tells how he compresses for YouTube.

Use 2000 kbps h.264 and resize to 320x240 yourself -- dont let youtube do that. You should get pretty good results from this: Here is an example

I actually got asked this question by 2 other people today, so I decided to write a detailed article about it on my blog.

    Read it here:http://ellingtonmedia.com/blog/2007/...youtube-video/

There is a bit of a disagreement here - Is it best to resize to Youtube size or use 480x360 pixels as Mr. Deity recommends? His video quality is the best I have seen on Youtube (although the anti-religious theme may not please everyone)

And does anyone know which is more "h.264" of "Sony AVC/ACC" or "Main Concept AVC/ACC" which are the mp4 rendering options in vegas.

All youtube videos are natively 320x240 and blown up to 480x360 in the player. I thought they were 480x360 for a while though too. If you press the button next to the full screen button you will see that they are truly 320x240.
That is very high quality though. I think bright lighting and minimal motion is the key to his picture quality.
