Its just the name for the range of consumer cams. Like Canon names its printers pixus (in Japan) pixma in the rest of the world. Hmm wonder if I can pick one of these up before I head to LA.

    Opinion..... Sweet.

I wonder if the 2:3 pulldown, will mean that the HDV compression algorythym will be less taxed, cause most of the frames are "staticish"?

You didn't budget for lenses and you should definetly get a follow focus, even if it's a indifocus.

FWIW, follow focuses are great, but in some cases not really needed. The hv30 was my #1 camera for awhile, but i started using it to shoot in my multi cam shoots, live music, which means lower light. Instead of using the hv30 as my main handheld, i use it as a static on center stage closeup (singer usually). The autofocus is generally fine, since as a static it's elevated above people's heads and hands. You can see an example below, shot with multiple cameras, you can tell the hv30 as it's the one on the singer closeup from slightly left (stage right) of dead center and behind the crowd (near the foh). The video also shows that the hv30 can match well with other cams, given enough post, there are i think four different types of cameras. More on topic, follow focus is a great idea for this camera when your using it mobile.
