HM. I disagree with this. Every fest, one film gets all 10's from me. It's never been my own, but one film does.

If you read my suggestion I stated "...any participant that rated their film..." this was to filter out an attempt to push up the rating of their film, not a filter which would disallow someone to rate a film a 10 (other than their own) across the board. Though I do find it hard to believe that there is or will ever be a perfect film across the board here or anywhere.

Regardless, I really think removing the self vote is a perfect approach.

Restricting a self-vote and not restricting 10's across the board sounds impossible in excel because then you'd have to give each entrant a specific balot and that's just the same as ignoring the score for their self score.

I concur.

I, however, wouldn't go as far as to rip something apart and make someone feel bad. There has to be a certain amount of finesse when criticizing, otherwise you hurt peoples feelings... especially when they put so much time and energy into something.

No, it's actually called parenting.

It looks like some people subscribe to the "tough love" point of view. But I'm not here to discuss parenting methods in a filmmaking thread.

Sorry I tried to relate a personal analogy to such, as now I feel some people are getting just a little TOO personal.

While not a bad idea to start with, this punishes films that have multiple users collaborating on them. If a certain film is made by 5 DVXUser members, that reduces the possible votes by much more than a film made by only a single member. I would imagine that with some of the films where multiple users take credit it could really impact the film if there votes (whether 10 or 5 or 1) were not allowed at all.
