Hey, by all means put up a poll. Doesn't mean that whatever polls highest will be what's chosen, but we're definitely interested in hearing what people want.
Frankly I'd like to see a non-effects-based fest next time. We've seen some incredible work in many of the sci-fi/horror/hero fest films, but I wonder if we're not shutting out a lot of filmmakers who may have great characters and story but are intimidated by the whole special effects angle...

I agree. I think Comedy would be a great universal subject to include all filmakers... unless they have lots of slapstick, which could require SFX!

Barry I LOVE YOU! I didnt want to bring it up like that but it's true...seeing 4 votes already for an action fest was kinda depressing....I know and I definitely support those who believe that it's not the toys and tools that make a great movie but the people behind it...still I would love to concentrate on my story (since I do the writting) and the cinematography than worry about post and cg and props etc etc.
I know that there are people in here who are masters in cg and vfx and prop making or work with such people...but wouldnt it be nice to have something more character-driven next time?

I'd vote for comedyfest. Even a romantic comedy could fall under that category. My second choice would be 'Oldern day'? If 'Oldern' was a period piece, that might be fun. It could be western, early america, old europe, roman, medieval, etc.
