position tracker module

it would be nice to have an electromagnetic position tracker module for the camera. it would consist of some markers attached to the camera and a reciever attached to the recording device. it would write the camera position and orientation (relative to the reciever) into the metadata of each frame. it would eliminate the need of 3d tracking entirely, which is a time consuming thing and not always possible. and yes, all the information of the lenses also has to be stored the same way.

some friend of mine has heard of something like this, so maybe it's not a fresh idea, but i think it really fits into the RED picture.
