The man behind RED..Check out this great image of him at work what he loves to do.. being behind the camera.

Many people dont realize just how deep he is involved in the Creation of Red.. hes not just the rich guy flying around in his jet bankrolling the operation like many think... he's the head designer, he has created everything you visually see of Red from scratch with his own two hands... and not just the camera... the logos, the artwork, the posters.. all Jim. He is an inventor.. and a designer, its his passion.




He's single handedly responsible for creating the color matrix of the camera, for how the camera looks and feels; the soul of the machine. This doesn't mean anything to you now.. but after you guys see the images this camera creates you will appreciate it tremendously.

Sorry my non-native english... LOL What I meant is: above all he's a photographer. His passion regarding the pics is the first reason why he's here. That's my understanding on the subject.

EDIT -- Basically or its meaning, in my native language, it means essentially or something like that...not basic, in this context. LOL But I appreciate your correction. Sometimes, it's better to say something than a misunderstanding. However, Jim knows me enough to know what I'm thinking about him as photographer besides what he is best known. Anyway, to be professional isn't the same than amateur. You're right!

In 2002 and 2003 I directed and shot a few episodes of Hot Rod TV for Primedia that aired on SPEED Channel. Some of those episodes covered Jannard's Funny Car team at the NHRA Nationals held at the Las Vegas International Raceway. The shows were about the behind the scenes work of the Oakley-sponsored cars. I knew Jim before that but let me just share this since the photo posted in this thread was of Jim shooting at the NHRA drag races: Jim Jannard is all about passion. He's really passionate about everything he does, whether it is sunglasses, photography, or now RED. He's a very talented and experienced cinematographer and photographer. During breaks at those NHRA events I chatted with Jim about camera tech and images. His eyes light up like candles when you talk about getting images with cameras of any sort! He may be wealthy because of his successful business interests but don't let that fool you. At heart his favorite thing to do is just like the rest of us - to simply go get some good images.

Hey Jarred, so are you saying Jim made those solid models of the camera? In other words, he's the one running the SolidWorks? I wouldn't be surprised, but that would be something if the CEO is actually doing the modeling!

He designed the models, he has a solidworks engineer to translate them. He is more than capable though. He spends half his day in photoshop, and im not exagerating.

But you hit the right point with your CEO comment.. its really facinating that Jim still is so hands on, it tells you kinda where his passion lies as Gibby described.

What's cool about Jim is he's not just a suit sitting in a well conditioned office, looking at graphs and share holder agendas. He's pasionate about this stuff, and gets his butt in the lab, and the field. Let's hope that translates into a camera that's the dogs bollocks
