I have a pair of MDR-7506 phones but my wife likes them too much... So I have decided to get another pair of the same.
Has any of you compared 7506:s to their bigger brother MDR-7509HD? Any advantages for double the price?

Just stick with 7506's...studio reference headphones for years...Don't go for the hype..go for the sound.

Well they cover the entire ear for one but I think that most people would rather buy 2 7506's versus one 7509 when dealing with film

Make sure to get the optical S/PDIF cables with the 24k gold connectors when you get them...

Simple question, just to stimulate a good response:

the 7506's are hard to beat.
i have 3 or 4 pairs and i just ordered another pair today!
my first pair is at least 3 or 4 years old and i have had to have the plug repaired but that was because someone got the headphones tangled up with a bunch of other cables at a night shoot and ended up yanking on the headphone cables like they were a rope and there became a broken wire in the first inch or so after the plug.
so i had a friend cut off the bad section and resolder on the original plug.
then on the last movie a camera person yanked really hard on the cable snake that goes from the mixer to the camera (which i normally have velcroed to my cart to act as a strain relief for just such problems) but it wasn't hooked to the cart so the bag took a header and it happened to land on the headphone plug with the 1/8 -> 1/4 adaptor and bent the hell out of it.
so i had that connector cut off and had a neutrix 1/4 right angle put on.
i just had that done today and the tech guy who did it for me sent me an email saying that they were all done and he mentioned that it was the sweetest pair of headphones he had ever listened to.
this tech guy is also a musician and has been playing for years and he also has a side business that makes custom cables mostly for guitars and other musician type stuff.
so i was surprised to here that he thought this pair of phones sounded so good.
so the moral is that they last forever and always sound good.
pretty hard to beat for $100
before i got into movie making i noticed on the behind the scenes stuff that they were always wearing these fairly "low end" sony headphones and i always wondered why.
i have two pairs of the sennheiser headphones that cost 4 or 5x as much as the sonys but for hearing dialog and hearing it clean and unimproved you can't beat the 7506's
plus i find them very comfortable to wear for long periods of time.
the only change i made was to add a pair of the garfield covers, they absorb sweat in the summer and keep your ears warm in the winter.
plus i can tell which pair are mine much more easily with them.

the sennheiser 25( about 180-200us) are much more flattish cans , much more blocking the outside sound penitrating , the Sony quit enhance the low and the middle up fq , what is make you wonder about some sounds you do record in the field .
but as like matthew said before , its quit hard to bit them price wise .
i had them both and choose the 25 for more delicate works

Get the 7506 all the way to the bank.

Another vote for the 7506 for field use. I think there are better cans for critical listening but it's hard to beat the 7506 for it's combined sound/price/convenience/comfort.
