Just recieved notification that my Matrox MXO box is on it's way and now I need a flat panel LCD monitor to go with it. Has anyone actually hooked an MXO box to a Dell 2407 24" display (the new one) ?
I've read a few issues about the new Dell 24" regarding banding.
The Dell is on sale for $709.00 until Aug 2 and would like to know if anyone can recommend this combination. Sure would be great to save some cash over the Apple 23".

I'm curious to know this too. I plan on buying the MXO, but I'm not sure what to hook it up to. Maybe you can be the official DVXUser/MXO guinea pig. ;-)

Hi Kevin:
Don't want to burst your bubble but the Dell is a poor video monitor, with or without the MXO. Yes, it will display banding as well as macroblocking in the dark areas. Great computer monitor, I am staring at my 2405 as I type this.
You would be better off buying an inexpensive LCD video monitor. I compared my Dell 2405 to my $400.00 Sony 17" LCD and the Sony blows away the Dell when both are fed HD-SDI via my BMD HDLink.
Best,

Samsung makes a great LCD that Costco sells for under $700.00.
23 inches. I'll be testing it with the Matrox box once my cable arrives.

Thanks for the feedback. Based on what i've read here and from other sites, I am going to rule out the Dell.
I think the best match with the MXO (although an expensive one) is the Apple 23 inch HD panel. I already have the 20 inch and I love it but I need to monitor 1080 pixel-for-pixel so I need the higher res.
The Matrox site refers to it specificly.
I think in the long run, the extra cash will be worth the peace of mind.
I would still be interested to know how the MXO works with some of the others.

I'm going to run the Matrox to a Fujitsu plasma via component out of my desktop.
And to a Samsung LCD 32-inch out of a PB 1.67 G4. Let you know.

My current setup is a MBP connected to an ACD 23" via the DVI out. I don't use the MBP screeen unless I'm going portable so the ACD is for all intents my main monitor. I also have a Sony 17" HD LCD that I've connected at times directly to the HVX.
If I connect an MXO inbetween my MBP and ACD would I be able to connect the Sony via the component out on the Matrox and still have the ACD function as it does now? Basically can I get a true video signal to the Sony with the normal DVI output to the ACD?

My understanding is that you are getting the canvas out, which is a low rez proxy

I've been running the MXO with a Dell 2405 and find it more than an adequate solution. In fact, I've had the MXO since May as a part of the beta cycle and I think that the Dell, for the money, is an adequate monitor for HDV/HD monitoring when paired with the MXO. I have noticed some banding but I am also taking price into consideration, knowing that regardless of how much I might pay for a computer LCD display, it still would never equal either a dedicated CRT monitor or LCD monitor on the level of say the Panasonic LH series. In short, I highly recommend the MXO as an inexpensive monitoring option.
