To a degree, it can be done but generally not with the kind of success you get from the adapters. Also, you've really got to plan and setup your shot a lot more. Check out Barry's video. He gives an explanation on how to do it on there.
If it was really satifactory, you wouldn't see so many people making or buy the 35mm adaptors.

Also, from what I know the DVX can't do repeatable focus, so if you set a focus rack up and practice it, it might not be the same again. (while we're on that, does the HVX have a repeatable focus ring?)

actually, both the DVX and HVX have repeatable focus, just look in the viewfinder at the MF #. Find your first and second number and just return to that mark.

repeatable focus helps achieve depth of field? sorry I'm very new to the DVX camera.

No, what I was refering to are those shots where the foregroud is in focus and the back ground is out of focus and then it flips to where the background is in focus and the foreground is out of focus. I kind of went off from your talk of depth of field.
Thanks scharky, I just thought that since the focus ring spun all the way around, 360 degrees and can keep going, it wouldn't be repeatable.Last edited by PunkMetalDrummer17; 07-03-2006 at 01:04 AM.

You can get a rather shallow DOF with the dvx. I have no problems doing focus rolls with mine. Just remember, wide open iris and the more zoom the better.

Sure, you can do it, but why the hell would you?"

... But using the DVX without an adapter for a movie where you want only shallow DOF is not good. You simply can't make wideshots with shallow DOF if you don't have an adapter.
But of course, go for the DVX-DOF when you can, if you want to. I do it all the time.
As mentioned, check out Barry's DVD.

You're talking about a rack focus, and you surely CAN do it with a DVX:

so what your saying is that doesnt involve DOF, because to me it looks like that could be achieved much better with an adapter?
