Gday all,
I have a question about putting Nikon lenses on a Canon 5d Digital SLR? A lot of us have or are going to by Nikon lenses to use with out 35mm adaptors (DVX/HVX) for the only reason that the have all the controls there on the lense, unlike some others of the other brands...
Anyways im just wondering if you use an adapter on the 5d to use any type of Nikon lense does everything work perfectly? like the light meter and fill the full frame up with information etc?
Any information regarding this topic would be great as im about to finally take the plunge and purchase a 5d ;)
Thanking you...

There are adapters out there, but you really don't want to be using nikon lenses on a canon camera.
1. No auto focus
2. No camera controlled aperature.
3. Adapters are sketchy and may not give you the best looking image.
Now with that said, the last claymation movie by Tim Burton was shot with a 1ds MkII with nikon lenses, but for everyday use, you are going to wish you had a compatible lens system.

Thanks scharky,
Is it really such a bad thing controlling everything on the Lense though just like old cameras? I dont care about Auto Focus and am happy using the lense to control everything
Im only worried about Picture Quality.
I have seen Corpes Bride and it is nothing short of Amazing! I started watching it and had to stop it 10 mins in and go into the special features to make sure that it was 'Stop Go' animation not CG!
Its a masterpiece...

Nikon manual lenses work better on Canon bodies than Canon EF lenses. In general the metering will work, and you should have the proper FOV. The Nikon to Canon EOS adapter is just a thin metal ring, no optics needed so there is nothing particularly sketchy about it.
An EF to EOS adapter, on the other hand requries optics to retain infinity focus, and it is almost impossible to obtain a quality adapter of this type. The Canon branded adapter is rare and expensive. It is basically a very small tele-extender so it is not very desirable if your goal is smaller focal lengths.
Just so you know, I bought Nikon lenses in anticipation of the G35 arriving, and I shoot Canon normally. I think the Nikon manual lenses are the best choice for a number of reasons.

Nice one tigeba i was thinking that it would just be the same as using them on a nikon anyway if you control everything on the lense itself.
Do you recommend a certain adapter or brand of adapter or are they all the same?

5D with nikon lenses and adapter?
