P2 Store: 15 4Gig Cards = 7.5 8Gig Cards?

Hey All,

It is my understanding that the P2 Store will store 15 4Gig P2 cards. It is also my understanding that, due to the way the P2 Store is designed, 15 discreet partitions are created even if one only utilizes a portion of a P2 cards storage capacity.

My question is this: How many partitions does P2 Store create if shooitng with 8Gig P2 cards? 15? If it is in fact 15, then what happens to the data on the final 8Gid P2 card? Does only have the data get copied to the P2 Store?

The way I see it, the P2 Store is what makes the HVX usable in the field as I just plain refuse to lug around a laptop.

The questions above make me wonder if capacities higher than 4Gig are worth it.

You can only copy 7 8 gig cards so you do loose some capacity when using the larger cards in the P2 Store. I personally use 3 4g cards and have had no reason to even think about going for the 8. This is for narrative, commercial, industrial, and long form documentary use. I don't do event style shooting so I can see where would be, the bigger the better in that situation.

A major factor aside from the P2 store is the ease of burning the data to standard DVD-R. 8 gig data seems just a little to far ahead of the curve. Once Blueray is available and put through the paces, I'll look at the larger cards but I really don't see much of a need for it with the way I shoot.

This is frustrating. While I have read how others folks here are using laptops to capture video streams I don't think it's for me. I had hoped the P2 Store would make the HVX a viable option for me, but sadly, it's just not looking that way.

I just read another thread in which it is stated that the P2 Store doesn't work well (or at all?) with Macs. Great.

Again, I know other folks are using the HVX with wonderful success, but I can't help but think that Panasonic has developed a GREAT acquisition solution in the HVX, but a terrible way to save, store and manage footage.

Perhaps HD for me will have to wait another year.
