24p looks terrible on my computer

I just got a dvx100b and i capture and edit using FCP, but when i capture in 24p, (not 24pa) the quality is TERRIBLE. When i hook the camera up to a tv it looks amazingm but when captured it looks horribly compressed and just flat out bad. It looks out of focus, edges look rough and it doesnt look sharp and crisp. Is it my capture settings? My computer ? I use a powerbook g4 1.67 with 1gb ram. any ideas? Im not talking about my colors or anything like that, just the quality.

link didnt work homes, i agree, 24p looks really dark on my comp, but in general its s*%t when using the auto exposure i found, i was constantly adding light to correct it while filming. Try pulling focus, using manual zoom and manually adjusting exposure when filming surfing.

I've always been a PC user and I will be for life (... at least until I can build a Mac with my own hands, anyway). Those specs seem awful... low-end. Which would explain why the video is perfect on a Television and so horrible looking on your PC.

I don't know if this makes a difference with FCP, but Premiere being able to take advantage of my GPU creates a night and day difference, and as you know, laptops aren't known for graphics.

Just my hunch, I'm sure a Mac & FCP user can shed some light on your problem.

What are your capture settings? dv ntsc? dv ntsc pulldown removal?

I'm on a dual powermac G5, and it always looks fine on my screen.

Did you make sure that your quicktime playback settings are at 100%? It looks like you have it playing back at half resolution.
