Hi all,
I need a quick help!
I want to export a 23min. short (audio 48mhz) to dvd in Premiere PRO 1.5. I want the best possible dvd for a screening. I used the AG-DVX100 25P PAL progressive mode. Need some help! Thanks!
1. Used this link http://www.customflix.com/bitbudget to calculate the bitrate:
Media type: DVD-R
Main audio track: PCM
Secondary audio track: none (I have more audio timelines in my project but it’s 1 audio track, isn’t it?)
Duration: 23min.
Recommended encoding mode: CBR
Average video bitrate: 4.96 mbps
Questions:
1. I understood VBR is a better option, recommended here is CBR, can CBR also give the best possible result? Also with progressive footage?
2. Average video bitrate: 4.96 mbps. What to do in edit settings with: Target bitrate, Maximum bitrate and Minimum bitrate? (now it’s standard 4.0, 7.0 and 1.5). Where to put this 4.96 mbps, Target bitrate or Maximum? (I’m really a PPRO beginner, sorry)
3. I always understood that max. bitrate is the best, so at 9.0. Or gives the average video bitrate as calculated the best result for screening my 23 min. short?
4. should I do something with M frames and N frames?
Thanks for answering!

No WAY I would be doing a CBR encode with an average of 4.96 on a 23 minute piece. You can encode that sucker at an average of 8 or 9 and you'll be just fine.
VBR is a better option when you need to save space on longer movies, but with something that short I don't see why you shouldn't just encode as high as possiblel.
At CBR your average is your constant (unless I'm way wrong -- if so somebody jump in here!), and you probably don't want a constant of 4.96 if you can help it.
So regarding your question #2, you would put 4.96 as your target, but I'd certainly give it a shot at twice that first!
