DIY Butterfly

found a few bags of parts from canopies that i think are going to work great for this. Need to get some angle tubing to make it square. Should be light enough to hang above head. Now in need of material.

I got these plans off the internet a while ago (my apologies to the original author, I don't remember where I got it). I built a couple of them and used them for my film INVITATION, they worked very well.

In case you did want to make it out of square tube, instead of PVC or conduit...

You could even get a connector like this...

and then weld a baby pin to a 1" piece of aluminum square tubing for use with c stands.
If you wanted to add legs to it so it could stand up on its own, you could even use a connector like this...

I registered for the sole reason of thanking you for these instructions, they were easy to follow and concise. I know have an effective and cheap butterfly, while remaining professional enough in look that I can bring it anywhere.
